Tethering is a useful feature available in iPads that allows you to share data connection with another device having Wi-Fi such as an iPhone or a laptop. You can share the data connection of your iPad, whether it is 4G LTE or HSPA+ data connection, by using the tethering or Personal Hotspot settings in your device.
This feature is useful if you wish to access internet on any other device that does not have a working data connection. By setting up your iPad tethering options, you can easily connect other devices to use data from the iPad. Below is how to setup and use the Personal Hotspot tethering feature on your iPad.
One of the first things to do for using the Personal Hotspot option is to make sure it is enabled. It will be disabled by default and you may need to enable it manually for sharing the data connection from your iPad. To enable the Personal Hotspot, go to the Settings app and then open General. Tap on the Network option and select Personal Hotspot, which will be displayed at the top. Toggle the switch next to the Personal Hotspot option to enable this feature on your iPad.
You can configure the Personal Hotspot settings such as changing the password. Apple has already provided you with a default password, but you can change it to your preferences and increasing the security of the connection. For this go to Settings > Personal Hotspot > Wi-Fi Password. The default password set by Apple will be displayed at the side; you can tap on this and enter your new password according to your liking.
The characters need to be more than eight characters in length. After typing in the new password, tap on the Done button at the top right corner to set the password for your Personal Hotspot.
After setting up the Personal Hotspot, you can use it to tether your data connection to any other device that has a built-in Wi-Fi. To share the data on your iPad, go to Settings > Personal Hotspotand toggle the switch near to it. Now go to the device that you wish to connect and check for any of the available Wi-Fi connections.
Select the name of your iPad that appears in the list of available connections. Enter the password that you have set for Personal Hotspot in the text field to connect and share the data from your iPad. Once successfully connected, a blue bar will be displayed at the top of your iPad.
