Having multiple user accounts is helpful if you often lend your tablet to others. This will help to maintain privacy and prevent other users from accessing your private data. You can easily set up multiple user accounts on any of your low cost Android tablets. While lending your device to others, you can switch to the secondary account, thereby limiting their functionality and access to your personal files.
If your tablet is running on Android 4.2 or above, you can create multiple user accounts by following the below-mentioned steps.
To set up a new user account on your tablet, you must first launch the notification tray. To do this, swipe down from the top of the Android tablet display, which will bring up the notifications tray. Now tap on the User icon located in the top right corner denoted by a circular icon. From there, you can select the different Guest accounts, which would enable others to use your tablet without permitting access to any of your data.
It is better to opt for Add User if the other user needs frequent usage of your tablet. It will require the other user to sign in with his/her Google account, thus keeping them out of your personal data stored in the device. When selecting this option, a pop-up message will appear which you need to go through before tapping on OK.
You will then be redirected to the new user’s lock screen. Unlocking the screen will then bring up the new user setup option. Tap on Next after going through the onscreen instructions and then sign in the other user with their Google account.
A new user account will not allow the user to make phone calls or send SMS messages using your tablet. However, you can change that if you wish to give them access to calling and messaging. To configure this, you need to first login using your primary account. Then go to Settings, open the Users menu, and then tap on the gear icon located near the new user’s name. Toggle the switch near Turn On Phone Calls & SMS to give secondary users access to calling and messaging.
You can easily switch between the different accounts created in your tablet. For this, launch the notification tray by swiping from the top of the screen. Then tap on the User icon indicated by a small circle located in the top right of the display. Tap on your account, which will take you to your lock screen from where you can log in to access your account.
